As others have said it is an autobiography. What others didn't say is that literary scholars have discovered that a big portion of the things that happened to Richard Wright the character from the novel never actually happened to Richard Wright the author of the novel.
A lot of the things happened to people he knew or stories he heard.
Does Wright claiming this is an autobiography when a lot of it is false make it a bad book? I'm still trying to decide.(less)
