Was anyone else disturbed by how Dawn was parented? It was evident that Dawn was a slow learner, had developmental delays, had an obvious physical affliction that made her a pariah, was allowed by her parents to endure social rejection repeatedly... Her one talent was discovered by her mother when she was 15... And then nothing was done about it....Dawn was waiting to be cultivated by a sociopath!

I was pretty disappointed in the beginning of this book. Only finished it because I wanted to see if Dawn was involved in her parent's attack. Writing was not very good.(less)

Although I've not yet completed Lacy Eye, I've read enough to know that it's strikingly similar to the real-life events chronicled in an episode of TV's newsmagazine, 48 Hours. That can't be coincidence. Thoughts?

The novel is indeed based on the real case, which occurred in my hometown and which was highlighted in that episode of 48 Hours.
