In this book Reacher doesn't have a credit card or a licence and apparently has never had either. In the previous book 'Persuaded' he landed at an airport and hired a car. How?

Does anyone know what happened to the black musicians Reacher was asking after in New York at the end of the book? Reacher doesn't seem too concerned that they didn't make an appearance at the New York club where they were suppose to play/sing.

I am going to try and ask this without spoilers so please bear with me. Did any other readers get emotionally upset when a person important to both Joe and Jack Reacher ended up a casualty? That particular scene made me feel sad at first and then mad to the point where I wanted to crawl into the pages and tell Reacher ''These guys just messed with both of us, Reacher, so how do you want to handle this?''

But instead, we get a milk-toast version of Reacher who is depicted as "slipped" in his skill set and tries to reconcile everything with his mind and not his skills.
Honestly, this was the first Reacher novel I was disappointed in. (less)
