He held on to it as tightly and protected it as fiercely as his privacy and masculinity, his "Northern" characteristics, don't you think?(less)

So it made sense to me that I had to figure out who the narrator was at any point in time (although it did get easier and easier as the book went on). I thought it was a clever device to deepen my engagement with the characters -- and keep me on my toes.(less)

As much as I didn't like him, it would've been interesting to have a third perspective from him. Although I can imagine that would be a challenge to write. Also, do we know for sure that she miscarried the first time around? Could she have delivered and Fen sacrificed the child like the Mumbanyo do with their first born?(less)
