I choose to concentrate on Anita Blake, the strong female "kick-ass" protagonist and skim over the "vampire politics" and the "sexual adeur" portions of her novels.

I like the earlier novels and then Hamilton loses her way a bit in the middle novels, but starting with Blood Noir, #16, she returns to the stellar work for a number of novels, at least through #24 Dead Ice. Affliction is -- IMO -- one of her two best novels.

Hamilton's prose is definitely a cut or two above most of the writers in the urban fantasy genre. Those who write her off because of the sex or "vamp politics" are missing some great fiction.(less)
