However, the second book was utterly disappointing to me. Would have loved it to continue as a solo POW from Vaelins perspective. Didn't really care/get emotionally attached by the other pows. (less)

I disagree with the other reader than said Reva becomes Vaelin's equal, which is implied nowhere in the book, nor was it even hinted at. Vaelin is a guy that made the Shield look like a complete amateur, and that guy is the best swordsman that the Meldeneans have to offer. So just because Reva is capable of insane feats, she's nowhere near Vaelin's level. Also keep in mind that Reva's upbringing is nearly as harsh as Vaelin's, having to train from childhood the way he did, so she's no slouch.(less)

It is different from the first, which I had to re-read as I read it so long ago I had forgotten much of it, so it takes a while to get into.
Also count this as a lesson learned; never read reviews before you read the book. I have spoiled many a great book that way. Who cares if others hate it?(less)

Book one = awesome epic fantasy; Book 2 = epic fail.(less)
