The "Why" was because Joe suspected Frances would turn his mother in to the police, plus murdering Frances would "free" Rose since Rose was obsessed with being Frances' friend.

Also for 6. I didn't care for Elva. She was barely present after the initial scene of them finding the corpse, so I had no attachment to her either way. (less)
