In my edition, in the author's note it said: "My editor asked me...to change the first chapter...I knew the book would never work without that first very controversial chapter. Fortunately I had an editor willing to listen to my reasons and the book was published in its original format." -- What was so controversial about the first chapter? I read it and don't understand what was so bad about it?
