Missing was started 2008. I haven't read both, so I don't know if they're a linked series. But if you want to read by publication order, then I guess Shadow Children would be first, as it was written before the Missing series. She started Missing after she ended Shadow Children. (less)

And that could mess time up, because what it something really important is supposed to happen and it doesn't happen because the past was changed. That's my understanding of it, I could be wrong.(less)

Time travel does not fit into a dystopia and while the characters (and readers) may not totally figure it out in the first book, the series is about time travel. On the other hand, the kids are fighting against society (although it is a society from the future that they are fighting), and that does have some dystopia leanings. I think that your memory is fine and that this book does not really belong in a list of dystopia books (but I might be inclined to leave it there as I really do think that it would appeal to kids who like dystopias, and it gives the kids a chance to argue the point).(less)
