What will you miss on Brimstone, if you don't read Still Life With Crows?

They just have Special Agent Pendergast as the main character. Still Life is much different. Not supernatural. Just a guy who was...can't say. I love this character. I'd love to meet him. He is so refined, but breaks out of his character in Still Life when he befriends an 18 yr old female who can't stay out of trouble. (less)

Does anyone know why the series is called Diogenes? I don't normally read books like these but I'm a little intrigued by the reference to the cynic/pre-stoic philosopher. I'm curious if there is a theme there or if there is no apparent connection to ancient cynic/stoic philosophy.
