Why are Palace of Mirrors and Palace of Lies in a series with Just Ella if books 2 and 3 have nothing to do with book 1?

do Ella or Jed reappear at any point in this series? when I read that this book was the first book in a series. I thought maybe we would learn more about if Jed was able to leave his position as high priest or reunited with Ella but from the descriptions of these books I'm not sure if its one of those series that tells different stories but gives you small cameos of previous characters or updates or if its unrelated
