These books are quite antireligious, but you could still enjoy them regardless of your faith. The Golden Compass does not deal as much with religion, but the second and third books really delve into the topic.(less)

So far it has been fantastic, and more faithful to the original text (although I didn't think that the movie was as bad as some people say). I think the best thing about the new show is probably the amazing cast!!!!!!!!!(less)

The UK publishers changed it, and when he had an opportunity to revert to a more meaningful name in subsequent editions, I imagine he jumped at the opportunity. The phrase is from Milton, who's "Paradise Lost" is a great book but entirely inspired by Christian mythology. Given Pullman's theology, it seems a suitable title. (I've read online without authentication that the other titles may be influenced by Milton's oevre as well.)(less)
