It was one thing for the author to give away the ending in the first chapter (what a great hook to make me want to keep reading so I could find out how their reunion went!) but then the least the author could do was give us a satisfying conclusion!(less)

I read another book about a young jewish woman who made parachute silk and then had to do the long walk at the end, (and her father had told her to wear her skiing boots) and she married and American soldier (a true story). I thought this may have been inspiration behind some of this book too, but I can't remember the name of the other book. Does anyone know it?
