Do I need to read The Creature in the Case before continuing on to Goldenhand? I just finished Clariel and was a little annoyed after reading the author's note in the back saying that Goldenhand takes place after the events in this novella. Will I be missing anything if I just skip over it?

We see a bit of Lirael in action properly and the first appearance of her goldenhand is in this story. Other than that, it builds up some of the Ancelstierre world a bit more as well as Nick's story. There's nothing crucial to the overarching plot that you can't pick up from the other books like the allusions to Nick's blood/magic.(less)

I just finished this book and I actually really liked it! In the book, Nicholas talked about how he wanted to go back over the wall to the Old Kingdom. However, it never really said what happened to him. Did it say if he ever wound up in the Old Kingdom again? Or not? Or does it talk about him more in "Goldenhand"? I'm reading that book right now but haven't finished it yet.
