Rereading Is Here! Let's Say It Again. Rereading Is Here!

How much do we love rereading? Let us count the ways…for those days when you just want to spend time with your favorite characters; or when you want to revisit a beloved classic; or maybe you want to brush up on a series before the next installment comes out (we're still waiting, George R.R. Martin and Diana Gabaldon), the list goes on! Rereading is such a core part of many of our readers' lives that having a better way to keep track of the times you've read a book has been your number one feature request. Starting today, that wish has been granted—no more missing out on rereads being counted for your Reading Challenge!
How Do I Start Using the Rereading Feature?
Next time you decide to reread a book that you've already marked as Read on Goodreads, simply mark it as Currently Reading. When you are done, just mark it as Read. You can do this from the Goodreads iOS and Android apps and on Goodreads.com, as well as in the About the Book feature on Kindle (if you have connected your Goodreads and Amazon accounts - click here to connect your accounts). We take care of marking it as a reread for you. Bonus, it will also automatically be included in your Reading Challenge.
Rereading Rolling Out In Stages
While it sounds like a simple thing to add, rereading turned out to be a complex engineering challenge that involved our entire database. To give you a sense of that scope, our 60 million members have added more than 1.7 billion books to their shelves! That's why we're rolling out rereading in stages. So, if you're not seeing it yet, you will soon!
How Do I Know If I Have the New Rereading Feature?
Go to Goodreads.com on desktop, choose a book you have already read, and click Edit on the My Activity area of the Book Page. At the bottom of the review section, you'll see the following:

How Do I Add All The Times I've Reread My Favorite Books?
On Goodreads.com on desktop, use the brand-new "Add read date" button in My Activity on the Book Page to enter when you read the book; then hit save! (You don't have to have a start date, but you must have a finish year for the book to count toward your Reading Challenge.)
What Happens If I've Been Keeping Track of My Rereads With The "Number of Times Read" Option?
If you previously used the "Number of times read" field, don't worry, we've already done the work for you and all your rereads are still there. If you added a number, it automatically shows in the new feature. If you used text, we've included it in the private notes section of your review. Simply click on edit Review, to change any dates or add more information.
I've Been Using Different Editions to Track Rereads, What Happens Now?
Our new rereading feature takes that into account! Rereads are comprehensive of all editions. When you view your review, it will indicate that you have also read another edition and include that in the total count.

Wondering which are the books Goodreads members most love to reread? Here are some of the most revisited books:

Love Goodreads even more!!!

Thank you so much, Goodreads. I have a list of books that I read every year and have been doing so for years and now I can finally add them to my reading challenge. The effort and hard work are greatly appreciated.
I like the idea, but so. . .now we have to remember the dates of when we previously read the book to list it as a reread? In the past we could just put the number of times, but now we have to fill in a time data field for each read by the looks.

Just wanted to add my Thank You!!!!s to the crowd. This is a feature we have all been wanting for years and I am so grateful you guys figured out a way to make it work. Thank you!!!

Enter something that's close to what your memory tells you. I have the same problem being sure about books I read back in the last millennium!
Liam wrote: "I don't know how others have done this, but the way I have handled re-reads is by simply changing the "finished" date to the last time I finished that particular book, then noting in the appropriat..."Pretty much what I used to do as well (though only discovered how to do it in 2016).
The number of times I've reread an entire series but couldn't count it toward my reading goal...Life is better. Thank you Goodreads!!
Liam wrote: "I don't know how others have done this, but the way I have handled re-reads is by simply changing the "finished" date to the last time I finished that particular book, then noting in the appropriat..."I also make a note because I like to keep my thoughts on the book each time I read them.
I don't have anything against rereading your favorite book..but with there being so many books out there to fall into I really don't do it often
Kae wrote: "WHY did doing this seem to erase all of the finished dates I had meticulously put in for over 400 books? Now I have to go back and put that all in again from my handwritten reading journal???????"Sorry to hear about this! I just took a quick look at your books and it seems like the read dates are still there. However, someone from our team will reach out to you shortly so we can troubleshoot this with you!

Unfortunately this is a bug. However, our engineers are aware of it and they're actively working on fixing it!

I have a rather terrible memory so I can commiserate. However, the good news is you don't have to remember a reread date in order to record it Just add an empty date field when you're editing your review and it will be recorded as a reread. :)

Thank you for the response! Would you suggest holding off switching books from exclusive shelves to "currently-reading" for the time being though? Or should we proceed anyways? Just wondering if it'd make any difference.
No problem at all! I would recommend continuing and just clicking "x" after any duplicate shelving data (or date fields) to remove it as a workaround until our developers can fix this.
Uh, while the rereading option is extremely welcome, the new format is sort of not functioning properly, yet. Because when you see the 'MY ACTIVITY' section on any book page, there are 2 edit buttons: 1 next to 'Shelves' - this one is ok, and another 1 next to 'Format' - and this one does not function at all. And besides, who are the people who would need to edit their format before editing the review?) I, for one, haven't ever edited the book format thing. The inconvenient thing is that there is no option altogether to enter the 'edit review' mode straight from the book page, not that I see it. Basically, in order to edit my review now I have to first choose the 'see review' link and then to choose the 'edit review' option. Not too terrible, but then not extremely logical either. Especially considering that there is the dead 'edit' button next to Formats.

To answer the original question, my most reread book is The Lord of the Rings. At least 11 times.
It's about time! I used to have this feature on Shelfari, but lost it with the change-over. It was so frustrating as there are some books that I have read 6 times!! And a lot read at least twice. I guess you could say I'm a chronic re-reader! My most re-read book is Sisterchicks do the Hula by Robin Jones Gunn.
Great idea, thanks for this! I tried to see if I had it with The Book Thief, but I don't. Unfortunately, that was added to my 2017 Reading Challenge. Do you know how I can undo that? Don't want to mess my count up....

I'd love to be able to go to a certain shelf ("to-read" or "young adult" for example), click a random butt..."Really? I had never seen that. I'm so excited to check it out. Thank you so much for letting me know, Rivka!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I REREAD BOOKS SO MUCH AND THIS WAS ALWAYS A BIG PROBLEM FOR ME! THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO US! THIS MEANS A LOT!! :D
