Own an iPhone or iPad? Now it's even easier to decide if you'll like a book (or not) with the redesigned book pages on the Goodreads iOS app!
Updated design
Get ready for a gorgeous new design that makes the book cover the star of the page. Each page now has a simple, clean look that makes it easier than ever to shelve, rate and review your latest book.

Jump right into the next book
Binge watching has nothing on binge reading! What's the first thing you want to do when you finish an amazing story? Find more by your new favorite author, of course! Now, when you go to the book page to rate the book you've just read, we help you keep your book binge going by showing you the next books in the series, more books by the same author, and similar books that Goodreads members also enjoyed.

Find out what people are saying
Whether you're trying to decide what to pick up next or you've just finished a book and can't wait to hear what others thought, reading reviews is the perfect way to dive deeper into the reading experience. Want to hear both sides of the story? We've made it easy to see reviews broken down by the star ratings it has received from the Goodreads community—or just from your friends. With a tap of the star rating, you can see all of the one star reviews for that book you worry may not live up to its hype, and even better, you can dive into all the five star reviews for that 800 page epic that's been sitting on your to-read shelf. Reading inspiration at its best!

Editions Matter
Keeping track of which edition of a book you've read is important. Did you read the first edition of A Game of Thrones in 1997, the TV tie-in edition when the series came out, or the Kindle e-book? The right edition with the right cover and page count matters so we've included the ability to switch editions directly via the book page in the app. The choice is yours.

These are just a few of the enhancements you'll find on the book page. Download the updated app from the iTunes App Store today and let us know what you're most excited about!

The iOS version looks better than the android one. Are you guys going to upgrade the GR App? thanks!
iPhones have the better version unlike android I think they need to update androids to a better version to.
Everything looks fine, just how comes that on my new iPhone I can not purchase the book directly on Amazon via GR links as I used to do it before (the links for purchase below the book synopsis visible now only on my laptop but not on iPhone)?

Thanks so much for taking the time to send us your feedback!
To clarify, Here's how to leave a review on the updated iOS app:
1. Navigate to the book page of the book you’d like to review.
2. Mark the book as "Read".
3. Scroll down and tap the “Write a Review” button. (It should now appear under your star rating).
4. A text box will open for you to write a review.
5. Tap "Done" at the top right to save!
To view more reviews, simply tap on the "- Community Reviews" section on the book page. This will take you to the book’s reviews, which you can further filter by star rating.
When you refer to writing a review under Currently Reading, are you referring to the written progress update? Please note that you can do this by visiting the page of a book you’re Currently Reading and tapping on the "update your progress" button under the star rating. You can also do this by visiting your Currently Reading shelf and selecting "Update Progress” next to any of the books you've shelved.
Thanks for all your other feedback - we'll be sure to submit it to our development team for consideration!
Now that I've looked more closely, I think I like it. I will see once I've finished a few books and see more functionality. I do like the way the friends reviews are sorted by rating. I find the design a bit jarring compared to rest of the app, but I will probably get used to that eventually.
I would love to see the "groups" redone next, as that's mostly what I use the app for and it is very clunky and difficult to manage right now. Trying to read new comments on a very active thread is a nightmare.
I love the latest update for GR so much that I've already telling all my goodreads friends about it. The new layout is so convenient and it finally solved my problems on browsing and loading book pages! Thanks for such a HUGE improvement and it makes reading much more enjoyable now! :))
Looks great, thanks for working on this! Adding my support for an Android option, although I don't currently have any problems with crashing on the version I have. Keep up the good work!

Because for all you know, not everyone is using iPHONE or iPAD.
AND GR in Android app crashes a LOT.
Thank you!
:)"
I thought this was just me! Yes I have android and goodreads crashes EVERY time I load it.
I got the release yesterday and this is a great update. No more struggles with the correct edition. I really liked the format for my books and don't mind the recommendations. If we could just get the add book/author tab when we are doing comments in groups, it would be great for those of us who post via our phones.
Jaclyn wrote: "We don’t have updates to share on the Android front right now. But rest assured that we’ll make sure the team hears that we have a lot of Android fans who are eager to get their hands on this kind ..."Confusing. Why don't you ensure that both iOS and Android users have updates simultaneously?
Jaclyn wrote: "We don’t have updates to share on the Android front right now. But rest assured that we’ll make sure the team hears that we have a lot of Android fans who are eager to get their hands on this kind ..."Looking forward to it!
Chris wrote: "Any plans to add an easier way to remove books from shelves? Maybe swipe to the right to show a delete button like with emails? Currently, it's only easy to do that with the website."I agree! Fantastic idea. Maybe also a quick way to access Listopia?
i think the new update is great! it's easy to find everything you need, though it may not be right in your face (as some commenters seem to NEED). keep up the good work!
How do I set the date that I started reading a book? It was clunky before, having to go to "write a review", which never made any sense because I just started reading the book! Now there is no "write a review" button anywhere!
Is there no way to read your own updates (I believe it was previously labeled as 'Comments' or 'status updates') while reading a book or on books that you have previously read?? While reading a book I like to write little comments/concerns/Plot thus far/etc. when I update my reading progress from my Kindle. I liked being able to click on my previously read books and see what my thoughts were at certain parts of a book. I no longer see this on the updated APP, I only see my star rating and what shelf the book is on, I can no longer read my update comments(or whatever they are called). Anyone know if status updates are on there somewhere and I'm just not seeing it?
I really like this new update! I've been waiting for the switch editions feature for a very long time.I have nothing to complain about.
Now looking forward a new profile page and new timeline.
I would love to be able to switch editions in android! And the grouppage is less important on the app, I really like the webfunction with the discussions..
Not sure how the iOS app works, but in the Android app I can't seem to find a way to change a book's position in a my To Read queue. That would be a nice addition--or, if it does already exist, then making it more obvious would be very welcome.
I'm enjoying the update. I'm a cover person and don't really care much at all what other people are reading. The book page looks great, but does make the other parts look a little dated. Can't wait to see what's next!
We really need an Android-update. It's old-fashioned and not very handy to use. And the iOS-app looks so pretty!
Will there be an update for the Recommendations page in order to say we're not interested in a book? That would be helpful and make the app more fully functional rather than only being able to shelve the books you see.

My friend's reviews show up and if I want to read Community Reviews I have to click on that section. So, to me, it looks like my friend's thoughts are appearing before anything else?
Personally, I like the update and hope that the same kind of update is in the works for the desktop version as well.
Another update that I would love to see for the app is if you are commenting in a group thread, the ability to add the link to the book/author would be appreciated.
Will there be an update for the app and desktop for how the Home page will look?
Another feature on the upgraded app I enjoy is the listing of the genres at the bottom - that wasn't available before, and I do like to see what the genre is for the book I'm searching/looking at.
Jaclyn wrote: "We don’t have updates to share on the Android front right now. But rest assured that we’ll make sure the team hears that we have a lot of Android fans who are eager to get their hands on this kind ..."Yes Yes Yes!!!
Phino wrote: "I get it, iOS is a much more tech friendly for developers, I just hope that all the great features that are popping up can at least be shared to some extent with us old fashioned hard core Android ..."dito
I also would like an update to the android app. When I post comments using it, it doesn't automatically capitalize the first letter in a sentence, which annoys the crap out of me.
Also, I'd just like more of the website features to be available on the app. The app is very sparse in general imo.
I can't seem to figure out how add the start date for a book. That used to be under the write a review option, which has also vanished. Those are kind of integral to the app's actual functionality if you're using it to track what you read. So confused. It does look nice, but functionality trumps appearance.
Molli wrote: "I can't seem to figure out how add the start date for a book. That used to be under the write a review option, which has also vanished. But that option only appears AFTER you've shelved it as read, so you either need to shelve it as 'currently reading' on the day you start it or keep a note elsewhere (which kind of defeats the purpose). I'd rather have it as a separate option altogether. And for the app (and website) to allow for multiple reading dates of books you read more than once.
Kindle is built on Android. Not sure why the Goodreads Android app is second-rate compared to the one on Apple devices. Please give us a full-featured Android app!

To the Goodreads folks, is there a place/link we can go to submit official feedback?

I AGREE!!!!! Yes! CRASHES a LOT!
I hope they do something about these kind of stuffs.
Hmmm.... Kinda disappointing.

Where on the app do you leave a review? Isn't Goodreads all about networking about books, authors and sharing reviews? Would that not be an important function to you?
Why can I only see a couple of reviews on my Currently Reading page under my current book? What? I'm stumped on this new change. What about an easier way to find and communicate under Groups? How about being able to use Explore on the app like you do on the web? It would also be nice to reply to a specific post or edit a specific post. Did you actually consider the end user of this app?
Bottom line, Goodreads is becoming more well known and more poplular. Consider putting more time into programming the app. Go forward and not backward. This upgrade is not for someone that hops on Goodreads daily, actually writes reviews and is a true book nerd. And for goodness sakes, bring back the ability to write a review on the app under Currently Reading. That functionality is an enormous miss for your users.
