Announcing KINDLR, the New Goodreads Dating App!

Posted by Otis Chandler on April 1, 2015
Have you ever fallen in love with someone's Favorites shelf? Or felt a flicker of kinship over the fact that you both have the same books on your To-Read list? Literary lonely hearts, you're in luck! Goodreads is pleased to announce the release of KINDLR, an exciting new dating app exclusively for Goodreads members.

Like everything else we do at Goodreads, KINDLR was a passion project from start to finish. Several members of the Goodreads team are single and dating in San Francisco, and they were getting a little too familiar with profile photos of girls in fake mustaches and guys cradling baby tigers or dancing shirtless at Burning Man. "We realized that we'd need to either change our lifestyles, or change the way that we date," says Project Manager Andreas Ernst.

Are you ready to change the way that you date?

With the red-hot new Goodreads dating app, KINDLR, your love matches are based on your book choices. Once you download the app, which is currently available on all Android and iOS devices, you will be matched with other book lovers in your area with the help of our proprietary algorithm that has already helped connect millions of Goodreads members with their next great book.

You will be shown a potential match and, based on their bookshelves, you can swipe right on the heart icon to indicate your interest, or swipe left on the 'x' icon to move on to the next person. If you are both interested, you will be connected within the KINDLR app and shown a photo of your potential library-mate. You also have the ability to message one another.

Tips: Tap on a shelf name to scroll through the books on that shelf. The icons at the top right of the bookshelves box are another way to get some insight on a potential love. For example, Davy F. has 182 books shelved, 33 books in common with Jocelyn, and a 42% book match percentage.

KINDLR is currently stoking bookish flames in three beta cities: San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. Do you want KINDLR to come to your city? Tell us where! Which book would make you think that you'd found your literary soulmate? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Gemma Williams I realise this is probably a joke but I think this needs to be a thing, for so many reasons.

message 256: by Waldo (new)

Waldo Varjak Imagine dating someone whom you did not wish would just please remain silent in order not to break the initial attraction; someone not only with vocabulary but a mind on display in the reviews! Someone with whom to strike up a meaningful conversation without fishing about. Brilliant!

message 266: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Price Goodreads, you've officially destroyed the lives of millions of lonely readers looking for the perfect soul mate.....the hope for the Love of our lives to be found right down the road.

You gave hope to the hopeless and hopeful romantics. Made our hearts flutter with the thought of being matched with 'the one', the Love we dream for and the Happily ever after.

Our hearts beat with life for the time it took to read this post, let our lonely selves looking for love believe that just maybe that mutual booklover would ride up on the big white horse with a massive haul of fictional and non-fictional books trailing behind them ready to profess their undying devotion and the gift of never being Loveless, Bookless or ending a story alone, ever again.

We hoped this was true and now our broken hearts bleed because as the fiction we cling to like our every breath we believed that just maybe.......Goodreads was going to bring the Fairytale to life. The knight to our front door, the Vampire to our bedside, the assasin to team up with in plots to kill, the broken soul of a main character in the story for us to fix together.....as a team....

Hopes given to us then ripped away like you shoved your fists inside our gaping open chests and painfully tore our hearts out. We hoped for a second and too quickly it was stolen away as we learn it's a joke. An April bookfools joke. How could you be so heartless, ruthless and cruel? Tears of what we now know will never be, fall like a downpour of rain where no rainbows will appear for us to wish on........broken hearted fairytale Believer.......left sitting on the tall marble staircase, missing one shoe, tiara crooked on our heads, weeping alone in this sorrow of Love Hope to Love never to be!!??

LMAO!!!! THIS is one of the best April fools jokes 'ever'!! Now will you please send me my perfect mate ;) :-P

LOVE YOU GOODREADS!!!! LMAO! :-p

message 267: by Jan C (new)

Jan C I hope it is April Fool's. I don't even show a picture of myself. (Although the original reason was work-related) Already people know too much about each other.

message 282: by Sal (new)

Sal This was a great one...clever as anything, and I appreciate the little side-jokes thrown in. If this were real, I feel like it could either go very well or very badly. Few things get people as excited as literature, but maybe that's a good thing.
