Books to Celebrate Black History Month (and Read All Year-Round)

Posted by Cybil on February 1, 2026

In honor of Black History Month, we’ve put together this specially curated collection of books with the aim of helping readers discover new and interesting titles to read throughout the year.

This time around, we’re concentrating on relatively recent releases. All of the books below have U.S. publication dates from 2024 onward, and we’ve sorted everything into two general stacks: fiction and nonfiction. All the better to appreciate the vast range of books to consider.

You’ll find pretty much everything somewhere below, from historical fiction to eco horror; Southern noir to literary sci-fi; contemporary romance to dark academia. In the nonfiction aisle, look for acclaimed biographies, candid memoirs, essay collections, and utopian visions.

The collection is only a sampling, but it’s a deliberate one designed to help readers find new books and authors. You might stumble upon a remarkably satisfying heist story, say. Or perhaps a Pulitzer Prize winner. Click around, see what’s what, and add anything that looks promising to your Want to Read list.
