New Books to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

To celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs annually from September 15 through October 15 in the U.S, we’ve compiled 84 new and recent fiction and nonfiction books from Latino/a/x/e authors. Each of the books listed here was published within the past five years. As you can see, there's plenty here for bookish sorts to read all year-round.
You’ll find high-profile historical fiction like Hernan Diaz’s Trust, recipient of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, along with hugely popular genre fiction like Mexican Gothic, the modern horror classic from Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Plenty of splashy debut novels here, too, like Xóchitl González’s acclaimed Olga Dies Dreaming. If you’re in the market for magical realism in the Old West, check out The Bullet Swallower from Elizabeth Gonzalez James. For a genuinely new kind of ghost story, try Julia Alvarez’s metafictional fable The Cemetery of Untold Stories.
