’Tis the Season for Brand-New Holiday-Themed Reading!

Posted by Sharon on November 18, 2024

Each and every year, round about this time, a veritable avalanche of holiday-themed books publishes across multiple genres. It’s a spectacular annual phenomenon. Just when you think you’ve seen every possible variation of holiday book–title pun, here come several dozen more.

Today’s collection zeroes in on this winter holiday tradition and is aimed at readers who like to schedule in a little thematic reading now and again. Incredibly, these are all 2024 publications, so this is just one year’s worth! There are so many. And we almost certainly missed a few.

You’ll find that most of the books slot into the romance or mystery genres, in one way or another. Cozy mysteries are especially popular this time of year: Check out the latest from Benjamin Stevenson, Everyone This Christmas Has a SecretFor a steamier option, pick up Laurie Gilmore’s The Christmas Tree Farm.

There are, of course, some other genre options. Fans of the great Susanna Clarke (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell) will want to check out the author’s new illustrated fantasy novella, The Wood at Midwinter. (Great gift idea, by the way.)

If nothing else, scroll around below just to savor the book titles. Some are intriguing (The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year). Some are alarming (A Corpse Among the Carolers). Some are alliterative (Deadlines, Donuts & Dreidels). Some are franchised (Murder, She Wrote: A Killer Christmas). And some are just contrary (This is Not a Holiday Romance). The puns, of course, are relentless (Sleep in Heavenly Pizza).

Click on the book cover images for further details on each individual title and add anything that looks promising to your own Want to Read shelf.

Susan I’ve read Susanna Clarkes The Wood At Midwinter which is a lovely easy read. I’m not overly fond of romance novels.

Berengaria Thank you, Sharon, for including a few Jewish holiday novels to represent those of us who don't celebrate Christmas, but still have a winter holiday! 💜

message 4: by Marlaina (new)

Marlaina McCauslin I am happy that they included other genres than christmas romance.

message 5: by Kristina (new)

Kristina Anyone have any good suggestions for Christmas books that are more about Advent and Christian life? I just finished reading The Birthkeeper of Bethlehem, which was very good, but I'd love modern Christmas stories, too, that don't revolve around a hurried romance or murder. Christmas has a little more to offer than that, I think.

message 6: by Jan (new)

Jan Anderson Wish you would add printable list to this format as would be easier to reference throughout the season

Karen Holiday Wedding!❤️

message 8: by Sree (new)

Sree Jayaram Loved Holiday Wedding by Melissa Dymond 😍😍😍 It’s the perfect feel-good holiday romance, especially with the added bonus that 10% of the proceeds go to colon cancer research. And here’s another fun detail: Melissa offers the book in both a spicy and sweet version. You can choose between the open-door (spicy) or closed-door (sweet) version, depending on your mood.

message 9: by Brandi (new)

Brandi Augustine You definitely want to check out Holiday Wedding by Melissa Dymond. She is an amazing writer. She is so generous with 10% of the proceeds going to colin cancer research.

I love her characters and how the book just pulls you in. Also if you like spice she has a spicy version and if you prefer to read a book but don't want the spice, she makes a sweet version too! Be sure to check Holiday Wedding out, you won't be disappointed 😉

Jane litherland I love this book so much ! It’s very well written , I was smitten with the characters and although I at first chose heat I went back and borrowed the cute on KU and there’s no story loss ,it’s awesome what the author has done .Its boss! It’s flawless too !! The cute , sweet is exactly that and the spicy 🌶️ hmmm that’ll do nicely . I’ve gone on to sweet edition as a present and I have the spicy edition on my bookcase at home. WOW it is top shelf quality reading I’m telling you now if you get my meaning.. Tis the season to read a magical feel good Christmas book . This is the reason I follow Dr. Melissa Dymond because her books are well thought out and both cute readers and spicy readers enjoy the same story and can chat about it together in a book club or down the pub . No one misses out in the discussion. That’s the neat thing and a soft cushion . Oh and did I mention the author has with all her books 10% of all book proceeds go to charity donation too. Kudos to her for doing this . The future of our children and grandchildren benefit from this selfless act and that’s a fact. Thanks I say for writing a magnificent book and being an awesome human being to boot 🧡👌🏼

Diogo Why do all the covers look the same 😭

message 12: by Melanie (new)

Melanie could we get some recs that aren't romance or the 14th book in a murder mystery series? I read The Christmas Orphans Club last year and it was lovely. Why can't we get more recs like that?

message 27: by Shaina (new)

Shaina I love lists like this, so glad the cozy mysteries were included as i'm not a big romance reader but i love a good cozy mystery on a long holiday weekend. Added 7 titles to my tbr and eagerly awaiting them from the library. While i wait i've picked up an old favorite, Gingerbread Cookie Murder, from the Hannah Swenson series. This is a cute one & the included cookie recipes are always a hit with my family. 🎄

message 28: by Teddi (new)

Teddi So pretty well all romance and cozies that fall in the middle of a series. Are there no stand alone fiction, proper mysteries or historicals? Why are all the covers the same?

message 29: by Jen (new)
