Discover the Biggest New Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Horror Reads of Summer

As part of our big annual Summer Reading bonanza, we’re taking extended trips down the various genre aisles this month to spotlight new books coming between now and August. Today’s collection is based on early reader reviews and anticipation from your fellow Goodreads members who are dedicated readers of science fiction, fantasy, and horror—often termed “speculative fiction” in polite company.
Actually, you don’t have to be a regular reader of SFF or horror to find something awesome in this collection, because there’s a rather remarkable amount of general awesomeness coming this summer. In recent years, speculative fiction has expanded past old-fashioned thinking and traditional genre constraints.
For instance, in This Great Hemisphere, author Mateo Askaripour deploys speculative fiction elements (an invisible girl!) to ask some uncomfortable questions about misinformation, manipulation, and our current “post-truth” crisis. In July, author and translator Anton Hur’s Toward Eternity documents some near-future issues in artificial intelligence and biotech ethics. Then there’s the new Keanu Reeves book, cowritten with weird fiction ace China Miéville. No, really.
A few other points of interest this summer: Look for new titles from renowned heavyweights like Lev Grossman (The Bright Sword), Deborah Harkness (The Black Bird Oracle), Paul Tremblay (Horror Movie), Rebecca Roanhorse (Mirrored Heavens), and Stephen King (You Like It Darker). Longtime fans of Sarah Rees Brennan's YA books will be pleased to note she's got an adult fantasy out with Long Live Evil. Also check out Peng Shepherd's All This & More, which delivers a cool riff on the choose-your-own-adventure concept.
Click on the book cover images for more information about each title, and add any good leads to your Want to Read shelf. And please feel free to continue the discussion in the comments section. Polite discourse, please. Remember: Be the comments section you want to see the world!

These books have not been published yet, so it makes sense they don't have a lot of ratings :)
