Goodreads on your NOOK Color
We're thrilled to announce that the Goodreads app is available for free on your NOOK Color. Our app makes the NOOK Color the most social ereader available! We love making Goodreads portable and accessible, because it is our core belief that a book comes alive when its ideas can be shared. (Also, try out our iPhone app, and an Android app is coming soon.)

The newly launched NOOK app store is part of a major update to the NOOK Color. It carries free apps like Goodreads and other apps for purchase. You can read more from Barnes & Noble about the update here and here.
When Barnes & Noble approached us about building a Goodreads app for the NOOK, we were flattered to learn that Goodreads was one of the more requested apps by NOOK owners. So, we put our noses to the grindstone to make sure we had an app ready for the launch of the store.
With this first version of the Goodreads app for NOOK, you can:
- Check updates from your friends and those you follow
- Manage your bookshelves
- Rate and review books you've read
- Read reviews from friends and the Goodreads community
- View author profiles
- Search for books
We're excited that we're not the only fans of the Goodreads app on NOOK. Aside from the enthusiastic team at Barnes & Noble, James Patterson gave us a thumbs up:
I've always been a fan of Goodreads, and how you can browse your friends' bookshelves. It's exciting to watch the NOOK Color grow from a great place to read into this new idea, which is almost like social reading. My fans can see I'm reading everything from Laura Hillenbrand's Unbroken to those Alex Rider kids' books — I like a wide range.
If you own a NOOK Color, we hope that you check out the Goodreads app.
Tell us what you think – please rate and review the app!
Also, don't forget to indicate that you own a NOOK Color (make sure you're logged in, then click on the "own reader" link).
And if you're trying to figure out which ereader to purchase, we think the NOOK Color just earned itself another big selling point.

For anyone who's wondering, I do not work for B&N: I'm just an avid reader who loves using technology to access and discuss books.

Never mind: found it when I installed the update!
I'm having trouble finding the place where I can indicate the date read. I see where I can add a book to a shelf, add a review, and rate the book, but no place to add a date.

First, let's make sure your NOOK Color is up-to-date. The version they just released today that includes the NOOK Apps shop is 1.2.0. Barnes & Noble explains how to see what version you have and how to update your NOOK Color at this web page and in the "NOOK Apps" video on this page.
Barnes & Noble will also require you to have a credit card on file with your Barnes & Noble account even though our app is free!
Once your NOOK Color is up-to-date, here's how to get the Goodreads app:
1. Tap the Quick Nav Arrow (the arrow on the screen just above the 'n' Home button). You may have to press the Home button first if you don't see the Quick Nav Arrow.
2. Tap on 'apps'
3. Tap on 'Discover More NOOK Apps' near the top
4. Tap on 'Search Shop' at the bottom
5. Type "goodreads" and then tap 'Search'. You should see our app; it's the one with the 'g' logo =)
6. Tap 'Free', and again on 'Confirm', and our app will be downloaded and installed on your NOOK Color!
Any time you want use the Goodreads app, tap the Quick Nav Arrow, then 'apps', then on our icon!
Enjoy!

I've got to say though, I'm really disappointed! I expected you to give me so much more!
The only thing I was REALLY looking forward to was being able to add a quote directly from my ebook to my goodreads profile. Is there any way you can add this function? NOOKcolor already comes with a facebook app that can do this, so I would assume its possible.
I would say that if you added this one function, I'd be satisfied. But it will take a little for me to be impressed.
I work at a major retail bookstore and I know the customers would also love this. I would love to suggest the goodreads app to customers, but right now the app really doesn't do the goodreads site any justice at all. I think that if someone's first introduction to goodreads was through the app, they wouldn't find it useful and would never really use the site. However, I have fallen in love with goodreads.com from the first day I started using it! I want to be able to share something impressive with customers.

as far as I know, there is no date set for an app store to be available for the black & white NOOK. I would hope that would be included with the next update.

I have a Rooted Nook Color. Basically this means that I stripped off the limiting Barnes and Noble software and installed a full version of Android Froyo, giving me full tablet capabilities.
So... how can I get the GoodReads app?

Chara, we'd love that, too! But B&N hasn't given us any way to integrate with the NOOK, yet =( That Facebook functionality was built by B&N, and hopefully they'll allow us to do something similar, soon.

It is inconvenient at best to have to search for and then categorize books you have on the device when the app should perform those steps for you.
Additionally, it would be nice if there were a way to use the LendMe functionality of the NC through the Goodreads app.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your hard work thus far!

Off the bat, I'm missing the ability to like a review. Also, would prefer to be able to quote to a status update while reading (like I would to Facebook or Twitter). Hopefully, the next version will include more features.
As I said, an excellent start for a first edition app. Thanks for the great work.

edit: was finally able to install the app the day after downloading it. Not sure what the issue was but I'm glad it works!

You may wish to contact Barnes & Noble about that, as I don't believe the original Nook has an app store, yet. However, if you and others encourage them, maybe they'll add it. :)

I havent had any problems with my nook color since the newest update.
I have heard a lot of people who deregiistered and reregistered their nook color to solve many different problems.
But if you deregister, you will lose any books/pictures/music you uploaded.

First, let's make sure your NOOK Color is up-to-date. The version they just released today that includes the NOOK Apps shop is 1.2.0. Barnes & Noble explains how to see what version yo..."

Now... I do have a little problem (isn't that always the way?), and I've seen others post about it, but no responses to their posts.
When I tap on "My Books" it'll take me to a screen that says "goodreads" for about 2 seconds then takes me back to the screen to tap "My Books" again. A couple times it's taken me back to the actual Nook Apps screen. Maybe it's something they are working on??
Anyone else have this problem then have it corrected?
Other than that, so far, I'm lovin' that I can have my Goodreads on my NookColor!

I know some people who have had trouble with their NC after the update. They de-registered and then re-registered their NC and the problems were solved.
the only problem is, that it wipes out anything you've loaded to your NC.

I'm not too comfortable with the idea of re-registering my NC. One, because it sounds like a headache, and two, because I haven't actually talked to anyone who's done it and verified that it worked. It always seems to be people who have heard of others saying it worked.
I think I'm just going to wait for goodreads to anounce when the issue has been fixed. Can't wait!
