111 Brand-New Paperbacks to Read Right Now

Posted by Sharon on April 13, 2023

What’s this giant list? Glad you asked. Why, it’s the best and most highly recommended paperbacks published thus far in 2023, according to your fellow Goodreads regulars. The big hit books of the past few years! But smaller!

For those of us who prefer paperbacks, the format has many benefits. But it often boils down to two things, really—paperbacks are cheaper, and they’re more portable. Basically, you don’t feel as guilty jamming them into a purse or beach bag or (pro tip!) cargo pants pocket.

Everything listed below has a 3.5-average star rating or better, and we’ve organized the books by genre. Mysteries! Memoirs! Sci-fi! Historical fantasy! Keep in mind, as always, that some books defy genre tagging and treat the tradition like dubious advice, best ignored. In these cases, we took our best shot.

Scroll over the book cover images below for more details about each title, and add anything interesting to your Want to Read shelf.

New General & Historical Fiction Paperbacks

New Mystery & Thriller Paperbacks

New Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Horror Paperbacks

New Nonfiction Paperbacks

Which of these books are you excited to pick up in paperback? Let us know in the comments below!

Jodi You've listed Black Cloud Rising in the "New NON-FICTION Paperbacks" category, however it is a NOVEL, and is noted as such right on the front cover.

Dawn Is it just me, or is the current trend in cover art just not engaging? I look at a lot of these covers and just...blah.

Cricket Booth So many exciting books. I especially want to read "The Maid", I've heard so many good things about it.

Georgina Warren There are a couple of required reading lists that I would like to submit my new book for: titles from authors on the autism spectrum, stepmother books, and original fairy tales.
