99 Upcoming Books the Goodreads Editors Can't Wait to Read

Posted by Cybil on February 21, 2023

This one is pretty straightforward: The curated roundup below features the books that we here on the editorial team can’t wait to get our paws on. It’s an opportunity to highlight not just the hotly anticipated stuff, but also the upcoming books that otherwise might not find their way onto other lists. In other words, these are books we think deserve some attention.

As usual, there’s a bit of overlap when it comes to the titles we all want, so we’ve featured those up top. All the books listed here are scheduled to be published in the U.S. later this year.

Click or tap the book cover images for more information on each title, and don’t forget to feed your Want to Read shelf.

Books We Fought Over

Hot debuts we can't wait to discuss with one another, along with the return of many of our favorite authors, are at the top of our collective Want to Read shelf!

Senior Editor Sharon Hsu's Picks

Clearly, I'm in the mood to read nonfiction and debuts right now. And despite my best intentions, a couple of campus novels always manage to sneak back onto my Want to Read shelf…

Senior Editor Cybil Wallace's Picks

Looking at this list, I guess I'm in the mood for lots of dark and moody atmospheric reading across genres! Really excited to get my hands on all of these…

Managing Editor Danny Feekes' Picks

First and foremost, a new Samantha Irby book is always cause for celebration! Beyond that, 2023 seems to be the year of celebrity memoirs, and I'm so here for it! (Paris!)

message 5: by Keri (new)

Keri I only had one book on this list, but if I had to pick one book for March and it would be a very hard choice to choose one, I would say it is Grace Draven's Hellebore.

message 6: by Kajoch (new)

Kajoch Kajoch bloody hell. Modern books look too damn beautiful

message 7: by Cosimo (new)

Cosimo Since you replaced the old great book page design with this new horrible and useless design, I don't trust your judgment anymore, so, unlike past years, I find myself looking upon these recommendations with a lot of suspicion. I'll just dismiss them and I hope you will improve (a lot) the book design some day, so that I can trust your taste in books again.

message 8: by Emily (new)

Emily I feel like you should have to reveal which editor won the book in the top category!

I agree. It's disgustingly ugly. The feedback form NEVER worked (gave me errors) and they never replied when I complained about it so I don't think we ever had input lol.

Jasmine I loved Etaf Rum's A Woman Is No Man. Can't wait to read Evil Eye.

message 11: by John (new)

John Hatley Does anyone at Goodreads know that there are users who do not live in the U.S.? Has anyone at Goodreads ever bothered to count how many there are? Has anyone at Goodreads even vaguely, however briefly, thought of publishing lists of books that will soon be published in a language other than English? I wonder.

Totally agreed! I'm from Germany, but read a lot English books. As I learn Russian and Dutch I would be happy to be able to filter by language.

Colleen The sequel to Legends and Lattes!

message 25: by Katelynn (new)

Katelynn Balcom A book I am really, really excited to come out is Koru The Trainer I Used To Know, it's coming out in March (or was it April), and I hear it's really good. I'd recommend checking it out when it finally releases!

LGBT Representation in Books Does Love Always Win? By Diane Billas would be a great addition to this list!

message 27: by Fmcklp (new)

Fmcklp Looks pretty dire overall, apart from
Cronin and maybe one other…most of these touch upon the accepted & repeated topics du jour, but don’t seem to offer much originality…

message 28: by Bee (last edited Mar 04, 2023 05:11AM) (new)

Bee This is a fantastic list! I already have a handful of these books on my must read and or most anticipated books of 2023 shelves. While reading through the lost I was lucky to find about 3 armfuls more to add! Thank you for sharing! I cant wait to devour these books and discuss. Also, Cybil Wallace I am right there with you!!!

message 29: by Kristine (new)

Kristine Thank you for this list! I added many books to my TBR. It’s always great to read about books that aren’t necessarily promoted as much and nice to find new reads and authors.

message 30: by Robert (new)

Robert M Why so few books by men ?

message 31: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Where are books by Mark Greaney, Brad Taylor, Brad Thor, Thomas Perry, and Jonathan Kellerman?

message 32: by Danny (new)

Danny 100% agreed on the useless book page, most actions require more clicks in the new design, how that is a UI improvement I will never understand, I'll just go with the cover and the short description I get here, which led to approximately zero clicks on 'want to read'. Don't know what it is with covers these days, but they simply don't look interesting enough to dig deeper most of the time
