message 59: by Paula Cristina (new)

Paula Cristina Muñoz Torres This list is so extended I’m so happy! I’ve been very negligent of lgbtq+ books in my reading history, mainly because I want to make a dent on my physical TBR before I leave home, and I don’t have that many. The ones I have that haven’t read are just so promising and everyone keeps hyping them up. I can’t wait to finish my last exam and actually do some reading. All these are going to my list.

message 60: by Kristianna (new)

Kristianna Thanks for sharing this!

message 61: by Molly (new)

Molly Siskin Surprised to see Brett Easton Ellis on this list. I read American Psycho and felt kind of mixed about it, but was very curious about this new release so I did already buy it, but I'm curious why it's on the list. If he is part of the LGBT or if this book just is, but I'm very curious to start this one, now.

message 63: by Neon (new)

Neon Fantastic list, I can't wait to get my teeth into some of these. As a queer and trans person who is married to a straight, white girl, I didn't know many of these existed. Can't wait to dig in.

Yeah I also came across one of these people and I was honestly baffled that there are people who comment stuff like that instead of let people be themselves, but gladly he's removed. It's a time for celebration, not negativity.

Some recommendations:

The River Has Teeth - Erica Waters
Wilder Girls - Rory Power
The Ghost We Keep - Mason Deaver
Under the Whispering Door - T.J. Klune
The Passing Playbook - Isaac Fitzsimmons
This Poison Heart - Kalynn Bayron

The Bell in the Fog is the sequel to Lavender House, which is a fantastic historical mystery I highly recommend! And for new thrillers, check out Killing Me by Michelle Gagnon and You Can Trust Me by Wendy Heard. Really more of a suspense novel, but The Spare Room by Andrea Bartz comes out later this month and I really enjoyed it. And if you like queer cozy mysteries, Board to Death by CJ Connor comes out in August, and try Magic, Lies, and Deadly Pies by Misha Popp and A Killing in Costumes by Zac Bissonnette.

Check out the Princess without Hair series. The lead is bisexual and one of her main love interests is genderfluid. In the first book he presents as masc but in the second book he presents as femme.

There's also an enemies to lovers arch with her and another woman.

Marian Celebrating Pride Month with writers from Aotearoa New Zealand! All new for lots of you in other parts of the world!!!

Renée is a distinguished Māori writer (Ngāti Kahungunu and Scots ancestry) of plays, fiction and memoir. #indigenous

The Wild Card by Renee . The Wild Card by Renée (Porohiwi series #1)

"Ruby Palmer is no damsel-in-distress. She’s a theatre-stealing, boss ass wahine toa determined to solve the mystery of her friend’s death, even at risk to her own life... She is tough, courageous and endearing to the reader...reference to the acceptance of takatāpui before the imported teachings of the missionaries and a dramatic and soap-worthy range of relationships that challenge heteronormative conventions and establish a new-normal in fiction novels." (Pantograph Punch, https://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/2...)

Blood Matters by Renee . Blood Matters by Renée (Porohiwi series #2)

Another star of a story, also set in small town Porohiwi, centering on Puti Derrell, owner of a bookshop called Mainly Crime and guardian of 10-year old called Bella Rose who wants to be a private investigator when she grows up.

message 87: by Niche (new)

Niche Anything SR-aro-ace casual/friendly (as in not Being Ace 101: a Novel or Ace vs the Allo World)?

I'd settle for just "here's platonic content" but there's the Murderbot seriesAll Systems Red and Elatsoe (not new, from 2020) that I've found with ace-spectrum protagonists and pretty minimal romantic/sexual content/desire/tension.

message 88: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Walsh Milo wrote: "LGBTQ+ books should be part of the annual GR awards."

This!!!!

message 89: by Meg (new)

Meg Our Hideous Progeny by C.E. McGill is the clear winner for me!

message 90: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Peterson Witchbound I loved this new romance! It's the first in a gay (m/m) werewolf series. Second hasn't come out yet but I can't wait to read it when it does. The main characters were hysterical and I laughed and cried throughout the whole book. One of the werewolves is a very strong Alpha which might bother some, but I loved him and his mate. Fell in love with the whole cast of characters and the world. Perfect read for pride month.

message 91: by P.E. (new)

P.E. Smith I was able to read an advance copy of this book and it is def worth checking out if you like bisexual romance with a suspenseful crime angle. The bisexual MC is fantastic.

message 93: by Doug (new)

Doug Great list as always - many of these I was already aware of and have ARCs or copies of - some you put on my radar - so thanks! Andrew Rannells' first memoir was so good, looking forward to his new one. One that ISN'T on the list but should be is Karl Geary's Juno Loves Legs - my favorite book of the year so far, published in April.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend Emily Victoria (This Golden Flame, Silver in the Mist). Both her books have aro/ace protagonists. She also has story in an ace anthology (Being Ace) coming out in October.

Willow (Taylor's version) So many of these books have great covers!

message 96: by hallie (new)

hallie are any of these books for kids/teens on the younger side? most of these books seem to be for adults and it'll be great if there are any lgbtq+ books for people my age.

message 97: by Brittany (last edited Jun 12, 2023 08:24AM) (new)

Brittany Roger wrote: "As a straight man I can't say that I have a whole lot of interest in these books, but I have had many gay and lesbian friends and I applaud any efforts to gain greater acceptance for sexual minorit..."

What a strange take. I'm assuming you also aren't a long lost princess, an assassin, a time traveler, or a magician, but that apparently hasn't stopped you from reading books featuring such characters or themes.

The list features a wide selection of books across all kinds of genres, dealing with all kinds of themes. You don't have to be queer in order to have an interest in books written by queer authors or featuring queer characters, and it isn't a bad thing to make an effort to at least occasionally support and read something by authors or featuring characters that are different from you. Doing so helps cultivate empathy, and is a part of how a greater acceptance of marginalized groups is gained.

N as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, i enjoy that this list is available, but i do wish that a little description were given, or at the very least the books sorted into the categories of representation they have. that may just be a thing i look for, but as an aroace, i find it very difficult to find books that have representation of my identity, so if books could be sorted into categories so that each book doesn’t have to be researched individually, that would be so great
