39 of the Most Anticipated YA Books for the Rest of the Year

The fall season is lining up nicely for YA enthusiasts, with several highly anticipated sequels slated for the shelves. Kerri Maniscalco closes out her Kingdom of the Wicked trilogy, while Tracy Deonn follows up her hit debut, Legendborn, with the pulse-pounding Bloodmarked.
Variety in genre and theme is pretty impressive this year, too, with lots of designations flipping and folding in on one another. For instance: Chloe Gong mixes historical drama and speculative fiction in 1930s Shanghai with Foul Lady Fortune. Courtney Summers brings feminist themes and a queer POV to mystery-thriller traditions with I’m the Girl. And Aiden Thomas adds Mexican mythology to the now-familiar high-stakes tournament in The Sunbearer Trials.
For fans of buffet-style short fiction, watch for several themed anthologies, including Eternally Yours (paranormal romance) and The Gathering Dark: An Anthology of Folk Horror.
To measure relative anticipation, the books gathered here are based on early reviews, author followings, and those titles showing up most frequently on readers’ Want to Read shelves. Each book also has above a 3.5 star average rating (at the time this article was written). Feel free to continue the brainstorming or make your own recommendations in the comments section. And, as ever, scroll over the covers to learn more about each book, and be sure to add what catches your eye to your own Want to Read shelf!

Looking forward to Jessica Townsend's next book in the Morrigan Crow series. Also hoping that Tamora Pierce's The Exile's Gift will be published this fall.
Looking forward to Alexa Donne’s Pretty Dead Queens—her last YA thriller was excellent, so I have high expectations for this one.
Thats weird that SCIONS by Josephine angelini wasn't mentioned... That's the one I really want people to read!
Sad to see that Scions isn’t included in this list. I know after many years of loving the Starcrossed trilogy, this is certainly a highly anticipated read for myself and many others.
My most anticipated book is Scions by Josephine Angelini! It deserves to be on this list - I know so many people who have been waiting so long for it to be published and can’t wait to read it!!
I just finished Fable and Namesake and when I heard that there was going to be a prequel, I was so excited. I could not put down the others and have recommended them to everyone! Fable is my new favorite heroine. Danielle wrote: "so excited for Saint!!!"
Some very interesting looking titles. I just finished Legend Born, so really looking forward to the sequel, Blood Marked!!!
Gleanings: Stories from the Arc of a Scythe, The First to Die at the End, and Silverborn: The Mystery of Morrigan Crow are definitely going to be so exciting! I can't wait for these to come out!! I'm so happy 😄😄
I feel like a 80 years old person who has only read classics , well , and sometimes not classics but very very good books, which one day will be classics. And now I look at this list and wonder, what books are even these ? Fantasy, drama, romance maybe ... The covers certainly don't look great.

The Gathering Dark sounds fascinating. I don't think I'll be able to wait months for the library to get these in so good-bye pay cheque!
Based on these comments I'm assuming I should check out Scions! 😂
Foul Lady Fortune and Rust in the Root!! My friend Amy and I LOVED the previous books by both authors: These Violent Delights and Our Violent Ends by Chloe Gong, and Dread Nation and Deathless Divide by Justina Ireland. We have our own two-person book club, and we discussed all four. So, I am hoping (despite our busy schedules) that Amy and I can discuss these new ones. Great authors who I would love to hear in person if they do book tours near my area.
