Highest-Rated YA Books of 2019 (So Far)
Which books are YA readers heaping love and adoration on this year? You'll see plenty of new favorites from familiar names on this list as the accolades continue for the sophomore novels from both Angie Thomas and Elizabeth Acevedo. Meanwhile, Holly Black and Leigh Bardugo continue to delight YA fans with their epic fantasy series. Looking for a new voice? The debut novels Wilder Girls and I Wish You All the Best are standouts in the crowd.
To create this list, we focused on books that were published in the U.S. between January and July. We ranked these books by the number of reader reviews and then made sure each book had at least a four-star average rating—and that was a tough cut to make. Just missing this list are the popular new releases The Gilded Wolves, Two Can Keep a Secret, and Again, but Better.

Aurora rising is on my to-read list.
Is sorcery of thorns any good? because I keep on seeing on the recommendations shelves

For series I have read and loved Harry Potter, Divergent, and Delirium to name a few!
I am currently reading The Cruel Prince but it is taking me forever to get into and I'm not exactly enjoying it as much as I thought I would based on all the hype!
So anyway, I am open to finding my next series obsession but I am also looking for contemporary suggestions! Thanks!

I Got it from the library, cannot wait to read it. Heard it ends horrible, but I still want to read it.

the end ripped my heart appart so i deeply suggest you wait in november because thats when the third (final) book will come out, so you won't have to wait a horrible 6 months to find out what will happen (unlike me). Then you should read the 3 books one after the other. Anyways the first 2 books were soo good, i finished them in less than 2 days!!

I didn't really like Aurora Rising either hehe

Out of that lot "The Wicked King" proved to be the most disappointing. I did rate it 4 stars because the last couple of chapters and that ending... wow!

I've heard mixed things about Aurora Rising, which is weird, because Kristoff usually puts out solid work?
But Lady Smoke was somehow WORSE than the first book. The characters are stupid, the main character is stupid AND whiny, and I don't think the author has researched anything. Ever. I also have very little regard for the Red Queen and Shatter Me series after some really crappy first books.

TBR - Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson & King of Scar by Leigh Bardugo

On the flip side, I also enjoyed Wilder Girls, which is a step away from reality.

I'm guessing that means it's a darling of critics. I read an ARC. Great story line, not perfectly executed.

I just recently read Caraval and am now on the waitlist at the library for Legendary. Waitlists are killers.

Emery Lord!!

The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord is a great contemporary!
I love the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco; it's got mystery, history, romance, and feels magical, even if there's technically no magic. Plus, the last book comes out soon, so there won't be a long wait to finish the series!

Not YA, but a fun read is The Rosie Project series (Rosie Effect and Rosie Result are the other two). Also, The Bear and the Nightingale Series is excellent (very long but really great).

Waiting For August is a fun standalone YA story of young love, what if's with a touch of summer magic.

Sorcery of Thorns is my favorite book this year so far (and I've read over 50). The title, cover, synopsis don't do it justice to how interesting the world is and how beautiful the writing.

Stephanie, if you are not getting into a book, drop it. There’s no rule that says you have to finish a book you’re not enjoying. Life is too short, Find a book you enjoy. Nuff said.
As far as recommendations—you might like the Rainbow Rowell series starting with Carry On which is a revionist Harry Potter. You might like her stand-alone Eleanor and Park. You would probably enjoy books by Lauren Oliver. She has a couple of series. An Australian author Melina Marchetta has a trilogy the Lumatere chronicles. Most of her other books are contemporary YA and they are excellent.

I want to continue the series but I had big problems with the toxic and abusive relationship between Jude and Cardan in "The cruel Prince."
Should I Still continue the series ?
Thank you!:)
