New Facebook and MySpace profile box
Oct 12, 2010 Update: Facebook no longer supports profile boxes, or tabs. Use the like button instead.
We've vastly improved the look and feel and customization of our Facebook and MySpace application profile boxes.
The new profile boxes (or widgets) go on your Facebook or MySpace profile, and are fully customizable. You can choose up to 3 shelves of books to show off, and if you are currently reading a book it will show your progress. Additionally you can add your friends, trivia questions you've taken or created, and bookclubs you're in or moderate.
To customize your widget, click on 'settings' in the header of the Goodreads app on Facebook or MySpace.

Cool looking widget. It's a shame they don't work on other types of blogging sites. I barely use Myspace and don't use Facebook at all.

I know that we have widgets available that we can plug into blogging sites and the like, but to date they really haven't done much more than provide a link to Goodreads. Is work being done to make them similar to what was just implemented for Facebook and Myspace? You can customize the flash or grid widgets (on the my account => widgets) tabs to show off any one particular shelf. But actually now it should be relatively easy for us to port the Facebook/MySpace widgets to other places if people want it.

I just tried doing this for the first time and it added the app, but then it created a new account on Goodreads with my Myspace name. Scared the crap out of me for a minute because I thought all my stuff was deleted. How do I get it to transfer correctly?

Thanks....will try to place it on my Facebook.....but I have had it on Bebo as a widget for months already....with book progress etc (I think.....I know it shows what I am currently reading anyway).
Great news - this looks like a definite improvement over the previous version.
I don't see any "settings" button to the right of the logo on facebook. I can't even figure out how to add it to my profile.
Nevere mind. You have to click on the goodreads app from the goodreads HELP page.
My goodreads app on facebook does not update itself. i've checked the settings on facebook and they say "nothing will be visible in this box until the application updates it." so facebook says it's a problem with goodreads....any idea waht that is about?!

I went from having 28 books to three. The only way I can see all my books and reviews is if I access goodreads directly from facebook, but by doing this I'm very limited. If I click goodreads home, all I can see is book information pertaining to just my friends. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?

Otis - I get the Goodreads info embedded in Facebook okay. But the notation on Facebook is "see all 0 of Shane's books on Goodreads" - when I have over 100 books reviewed and listed in Goodreads. Also there is a prompt on the top that says "oops cannot find user" although my Good reads info pops in under the Facebook banner okay. Any suggestions to fix this?Fyi my Goodreads and Facebook accounts have different user ID's - is this the cause?

Thanks Otis - I did as you said - but I am still getting the "0 books read by Shane..." note in the Goodreads box on my Facebook profile.Hopefully this will rectify with time.
I'm still glad that you made this link - Nirvana would be to have one social networking site (i.e FaceBook) with many special interest branches ( i.e Good reads, You Tube etc.)and with data entry by the subscriber required only once with optional commands to pre-populate other linked branches as appropriate.
Then we will definitely be in an era of "Big Brother is watching..." as much as we relish the idea of having these sites to connect with people. - Shane

No content to display.
This box will not be visible to people who view your profile until this application adds content to it.
Facebook says it is a GoodReads problem.

i am having trouble. i went to "settings" on my myspace thing but it wouldn't let me customize the widget. all it said was blocks to check on certain things i want to do, like, add this to my profile and so on. maybe i am going to the wrong settings but its the only settings i can find. i need help!!!
nevermind. lol. thank you anyway. i figured it out by just looking through everything.i like it. its great.
FULL OF BUGSIt grabbed my Facebook pic, erased everything I ever entered except for friends and I had to log out and ignore the Facebook app. to log back in to your main site.

Bryan: That "31rpr3m6%2btl" is an image caching issue on Facebook's end. There is very little we can do, but I suggest you re-save your settings and see if that helps.
Hi all - I actually reset my Goodreads profile settings in Facebook, previewed them and saved them and then then showed up fine in Facebook - try it. I repeated it a second time changing some of the settings and it worked the next time too.Shane
My only suggestion would be for the option to choose to show only the books you are currently reading, without listing the second bookshelf.
Here's what my box shows:No content to display.
This box will not be visible to people who view your profile until this application adds content to it.
My accounts are synched and have been for quite some time. The Goodreads tab displays everything correctly.
EDIT: I re-saved the settings and now it displays properly. But if I'm going to have to keep doing that it will kind of suck.
I love this display at my page. it helps others can see what I reading or read it. great job on that.
Does anyone know if this widget is working? It won't appear on my wall as a box after I update the settings and save.I have a goodreads as a tab, but cannot get the widget to setup as a box on my wall.

Not sure, but Facebook is deprecating the boxes very soon.
how do I get the Goodreads box to show up on Facebook? The Goodreads tab is there and when I got into settings and "Customize my profile box", Save and "Add Goodreads to your profile" everything looks fine but the box doesn't show up. I also went into Account, Application Settings for Good reads and there is no option for adding the box
I am having the same issue as #48 & #50.... It seems we may be jumping into the game a little too late. I think Facebook no longer allows us to alter where "boxes" appear. They are only a legacy feature now. I hope I am wrong! This would be a great feature to add to my profile (the tab is there, but not the widget/box)!
Facebook has said over and over that they are deprecating the boxes this year and that the tabs are the way to go in the future.
