I have heard that this is a really cool book. Have come very close to reading it a lot of times but always dropped it because I found some other book that interests me more

Pet Sematary by Stephen King scared the bejesus out of me.
But for me the scariest yet was the Stand.

The only one that really scared me was The Exorcist. I actually got cold prickles all over my skin at one of the scenes.

If you like or want to try comics Crossed, Vol. 1 and Outcast, Vol. 1: A Darkness Surrounds Him scared me quite a bit and I usually don’t get scared by fiction.

I think The Accursed by Joyce Carol Oates is really good for this time of year, even if it may not be super scary for everyone; and, of course, Dracula!
Have a good time reading!!

Try something with a strong comedy component. Tend to blunt the scare.

same i have never read any of his books starting with carrie"
I had only read 4 or 5 prior to this month. I've already read 3 this month (Full Dark No Stars, Misery, Sleeping Beauties) and am currently reading 3 more (Skeleton Crew, Christine, 11.22.63).

The movie is better than the book. Not often does this happen, except when the book is written by King.

I need a little advise here.
I can't decide which one is the best to read first.
I really appreciate it if you all tell me your favorite horror novels.
:))))))

I second Bird Box - totally creeped me out and I don't creep out easily!

I actually agree. To me, there are no scary books. Only scary movies.

The Birds...Hitchcock was a suspense genius.

I also really liked it, very haunting and sad.
Yeukai wrote: "not horror but really disturbing, Virginia Andrews" Agreed! Her books are warped. A lot of INCEST related storylines.

One of my favourite books.
Doesn't have ghosts or gouls but will keep you in the edge of your seat the whole time!!!

I'm a scaredy-cat in real life but for some reason books just don't scare me. The only one I've ever read that truly scared me was Bird Box by Josh Malerman. I find suspense and the unknown to be far scarier than gore or jump scares, and this book is just that. Plus, it has a premise I've really never even heard of. It's just great - you should check it out.

OMG BIRD BOX!! Freaked me the f*** out! Great horror read!

Problem is that it is non-fiction. That is what made it really scary.
And a delightfully creepy fantasy story by Brandon Sanderson:
Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell

The only two that have given me chills are Susan Hill's The Woman in Black and Stephen King's Salem's Lot. I also thought that Douglas Nicholas' first book Something Red was fun.

Lord, me too. The scariest scene for me was the encounter with the man on the river. I so desperately wanted to know what he looked like / 'became'!
