Hide a Book Day is finally here! As part of our Ten-Year Anniversary Celebration, Goodreads is teaming up with The Book Fairies to hide books for people to find, read, and pass on.

Hey everyone, in Belgium we have this lovely initiative called 'zwerfboeken' (straybooks) where people can submit books online that they will put somewhere outside out to 'stray' in the hands of a new reader. the submitting is connected to a code so you can follow the book's adventures, and read what the other readers thought of it... but i like to secretly put lone, uncoded books on odd spotts as well ^^

Yes, so was i :) Indeed the books may tell a whole new story this way. One that that tends to be quite soulful and full of unexpected connections...
I left 2 in FiDi, NYC!1st one: https://twitter.com/nikkio1211/status...

I've hidden 6 books in Altrincham, near Manchester in the UK. Tried my best to get them undercover but hopefully they'll all get picked up before the heavens open! https://www.facebook.com/permalink.ph...https://twitter.com/TheTrueMC/status/...

So stoked for today! Got my four helpers and a box of book goodies! Soon there will readable surprises everywhere throughout Port Colborne, Ontario! Boo ya!
I was so excited for this. Gave away 5 books. But I don't appreciate whomever runs the Goodreads Twitter account laughing at me for wrapping my books in plastic. Sorry I care that they aren't damaged if they sit outside overnight. I live in a rural area. I just got through wind and rain from Hurricane Irma.

Sorry I care that they aren't damag..." Hi Vonze, strange how people can't imagine rain and the impact it has on paper... I wrap them up in plastic too for the same reason, it also rains in Belgium (a lot) ^^
I'm glad to know that there are some people who care and know the proper precautions to take to protect books from weather. I would've done the same thing. I hope you and your family recover from the aftermath of the hurricane.

But it's almost worldwide ^^ Imagine the stories of all those readers.... thank you Chris

If you hide a book here in Japan without leaving a note that it's okay to read it, it will just get returned to the police.

I should have wrapped my book! Good idea!!!

Me too, Cattylou. Maybe we'll both be better prepared for next year!
Why on earth would you put a sticker on the cover of a book? You're ruining itttttttttttttttttttttttttt.
I hid my book in the science department of my high school.

Hid three books today! Hid several last week. As I pass the places I hid them, I noted they were found ! So excited! I can't wait to hide more!
Chris wrote: "Anneke wrote: "Hey everyone, in Belgium we have this lovely initiative called 'zwerfboeken' (straybooks) where people can submit books online that they will put somewhere outside out to 'stray' in ..."Made me wonder if they were making a bid to take over Bookcrossing. I think they are international now.
I just hid five books around Camrose, Alberta and had a blast doing it. I don't know if anyone else here is participating, but that's ok. Maybe the people who find these books will hide some themselves another time.
Diana wrote: "Why on earth would you put a sticker on the cover of a book? You're ruining itttttttttttttttttttttttttt." true, but you could put it on the inside though.. i wouldn't mind ^^
Today I "hid" 12 books with stickers attached by a paperclip to the cover. I left books at the local train station, two laundromats and several bus shelters. I saw one man perusing The Lovely Bones as I drove away. Fun!
There will be a box of books at the Vancouver, B.C. Public Library (main branch) next Sunday (Sept. 24) released with BookCrossing as mentioned above, but some may have Good Reads as well. There is a huge festival called Word - free- with author readings, publishers' tents, children's activities, performers, community organisations, and the calligraphy guild doing free personal bookmarks. Well worth coming down (11-5) if you're in the area.
I have hidden five books in Dunfermline, Scotland, today and I really enjoyed taking part. I have been tweeting photos and this is my blogpost: https://thethreersbooks.wordpress.com...
I have really enjoyed doing this! So, I have hidden 12 books, in Runge, Texas. I chose a couple of favorites, of friends of mine. I also hid a few of my faves, as well. Each book has a bookmarker with it, and since I don't put my name in my books, I remain anonymous. Some books are recent purchases, others gently treasured books from Goodreads. One just never knows what can be found at the Post Office!

Sorry I care that they aren't damag..."Hi Yvonne, so sorry you experienced that. It is often necessary to wrap the books - some of us even use clingfilm! I hope they were snapped up quickly :)
