Whenever the unconscious "speaks" I take notice, even if I do not undferstand. If no new idea comes, I let it be. I spent many years in psycho therapy, where I found the art. Before that I was neither a writer or a painter. I WAS BLOCKED. Meditation, exercises and keeping a diary do help. Without diary I wouldn't have been able to write INSECTUAL (less)

It is much more difficult to write a book and this was one of my life's challenges. English is my second language, my original language being German. I was lucky. I had an excellent coach/editor and proofreaders.

Did the art provide me with inspiration? Not consciously at that early time (I started writing Insectual in 1986), but I am thinking in images. This is an account of a psychotherapy and while in analysis I discovered the images. I first used crayons and later acrylics on canvas. Very few of these original paintings are described in the book. Today images appear very often together with text. I am now writing a blog where I am analyzing the illustrations of Insectual. (see www.blog.barbaranaiveart.com)

Making Connections: 4078. - INSECTUAL The Secret of the Black Butterfly by Barbara Sala 1 6 Nov 04, 2015 06:51PM
Franz Kafka
“One of the first signs of the beginning of understanding is the wish to die. This life appears unbearable, another unattainable. One is no longer ashamed of wanting to die; one asks to be moved from the old cell, which one hates, to a new one, which one willl only in time come to hate. In this there is also a residue of belief that during the move the master will chance to come along the corridor, look at the prisoner and say: "This man is not to be locked up again, He is to come with me.”
Franz Kafka, The Blue Octavo Notebooks
