As I get older, my palate changes.

Once upon I time I LOVED Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette

. It comes from my youth and college and fun times. Big album in those days. We were all playing it.

Nowadays, tho, it sounds like a cat being tortured. Alanis sang uniquely. Perhaps too uniquely.

Commerical bread I can no longer eat. No matter what brand, it tastes too sweet to me. I look at the sugar content and yup.

What is this weird obsession Americans have with sweetness? I actually find it at the very least distracting, and usually unpleasant. And I try to eat healthy, too. 100% whole wheat with nuts and seeds and, apparently, an assload of sugar.

I either bake my own bread or get it from a bakery. I pay a little less (seriously), but it’s worth it.

Metallica. I have been to three separate Metallica shows. What in god’s name was I thinking? They’re simply horrible.

I used to drink soda pop, but, man, is that sweet, too. Why am I becoming all sensitive to sugar and sweetness in my 40s?

I used to like any sci-fi movie going, but the fact is 99% are stupid as hell. I’ll take 1979’s ALIEN any day.

They say as we age that our tastes refine. I would have to agree, if for no other reason than I have no choice.
