Alexander Draganov not nice. The book had a much better action and story

Rob McKenna I was holding my tongue on this episode, simply to assess just how much damage the previous episode's ridiculousness had done to Terry's faithful reading community. Two days removed from the follow-up episode and with only one viewer comment herein (a negative one), I can now justifiably presume that the book readers have reacted not with hatred, but with a far worse verdict - complete disinterest.

Albert I started ready Shannara novels in the early 80's and loved them. Every 4-5 years I read them again and still enjoy them. I will continue reading the novels as they are released.
I was extremely excited when I heard Shannara was being made into a TV series, and I enjoyed the first few episodes but I think that's it for me, too many changes from the novels. Is this really what younger fantasy readers like?
I understand there are always differences when a novel is adapted to TV or the Big Screen, and these differences don't always make sense to the fans. Usually I just go with it, however in this case I have really enjoyed the work for 30 years, and the changes made in the TV series don't to the novels justice.
Hard to tell how something will be received, but had Shannara been done like GoT on HBO then I believe it could of been truly epic and done the written word justice.
Love your work Mr. Brooks, but I'll stick with the novels.

Jon I'm so disappointed with the show. It's hard to live up to epic books when translating to TV, but everything about the show is so MTV. Once I heard MTV was involved, I set my expectations low, but I was crossing my fingers and hoping they'd produce something true to the books. Something aspiring to be GoT or LotR-esque, but it's just too much cheese, cliches, and shallow characters. It's hard to hit GoT or LotR level when translating epic fantasy to TV/movie, but the show hasn't been even close IMO.

I'll still be watching since I love every Terry Brooks book written so far and it's nice to see the world brought to life in some fashion. But it really is disappointing.

Barbara Sherrick Too much aimed at young people with too much sex.

message 6: by Doug (new)

Doug The show is an insult to long-time readers. No concern was given to people who love the books. They were robbed of their most basic concepts and then changed into something highly unrecognizable. The whole post-apocalyptic setting is ridiculously highlighted. That could have been a tremendous reveal at some time in the future of the show, just as it was in the books. Brooks, a long-time favorite of mine - I started reading Shannara when I was 12 years old when "Sword" came out. He blew this one. I think some desperation was sneaking in to his decision to work with these producers. Despite public comments of support I have to think he's disappointed by these recent episodes and complete overhaul of basic story elements. It's a shame as all this awfulness means the books will never be adapted properly.

I have to agree. The biggest crime of all is that this will be the last time anyone tries to adapt this, and thus the lasting legacy of Shannara in the public consciousness will be this travesty.

message 8: by John (new)

John Get over it people. At first i was a little concerned about production standards too loud and over dramatic music and poor acting. But really it's not bad...still got over loud music but it's settling down nicely. I've waited years for this and I'm not gonna let you naysayers spoil it. It is an MTV production after all...I'm just glad it's getting done and look forward to season 2.
