Instagram is a wall, not a window
Just because you follow someone on Instagram you are not nearer to live THAT life, you are still looking at someone’s life through a screen.
Instagram is the most interesting social media platform. Through Instagram you have access to an open window that shows your dreams… and they are right there!
The difference between Instagram and any other social media is that while on Facebook and Twitter you have access to people’s ideas and thoughts, on IG it is pure show off. It’s MTV Cribs all over again.
When you open the app for some seconds you live on the expectant validation that your dream is at the tip of your index finger. Be it a “like” or while you scroll down and breath deep when you read inspirational quotes, check your dream girlfriend, house, car or vacation.
It is all there and still it isn’t even real.
It is the entire package. You can tag their name in an attempt that they will see you, acknowledge you or reply to your comment. And you are still in the same place. Not moved an inch in the direction of your dreams.
The danger of it all is the illusion that it creates. The open window is not a window at all, but a paint on a wall. And you scratch it with your fingers and you wish that you were on the other side and you feel that because you are in touch with that reality… it’s closer.
But it’s not.
What will make you move forward is the boring work that you have to do every day. It is the email you don’t feel like replying to. The sale that you don’t feel like closing. That article that is half — heartedly submited because even though you know it is good, you already sent so many and none got published. Still, that is what will make you move forward!
All of the above will add up, the consistency that nobody sees is what is needed, even if it isn’t sexy. Nobody will like your picture on Instagram celebrating a sale, but they will like what you can afford because of that sale!
You shouldn’t be successful on Instagram so you will see success in real life. What you should do is to be successful in real life and then show your life on Instagram. People will still like you and you won’t come off as a wannabe internet celeb.
Ps. By the way, follow me on Instagram
