In terms of content, this update:
Added a large chapter on the data binding framework
Added more samples of leaks, and a section on LeakCanary,
to the chapter on memory leaks
Added a section on Volley to the chapter on Internet access
Added a new chapter on Android on the desktop
Repaired the material on Android 6.0s automatic backup solution and
got it working (with the assistance of an eagle-eyed reader!)
Moved all of the material that had been in the Android 6.0 appendix
into more permanent locations in the main body of the book
Updated the chapter on BlackBerry to mention the Priv
Added material on path-traversal bugs to
one of the chapters on ContentProvider
Lots of bug fixes and general improvements, particularly to older chapters
Also, I will be upgrading the APK edition of the book over the course
of 2016, beyond the content itself. One immediate change: the
minSdkVersion is now 15. Those of you reading the book using the APK
edition on Android 2.x/3.x devices will need to switch to the PDF,
EPUB, or MOBI/Kindle formats. That change should not affect too many
people; for those it does affect, I apologize. Also, it is fairly
likely that I will introduce a bug or two into the APK edition as the
year goes on, and I would like to apologize in advance for anyone
harmed by those bugs.
The next book update is tentatively scheduled for the latter half
of March. Android Studio 2.0 will be on the docket, should it ship to
the release channel in the next few weeks.
