Blank Canvas, Creating Worlds

Picture a corner, a chair like a small throne sits in it, facing outward. There I sit and can see everything. Much further than just what the eyes can see, because from here I can see everything that exists and can exist.

It’s my blank canvas that stretches away into forever. My blank canvas to fill with creatures, beasts, villains and heroes. My cast of characters to live and die in a world of my creation, my control, my understanding. To explore, to investigate, to expand and to share.

This is the playground of the mind, where thoughts and dreams are temporarily framed in order to grasp some sense of order, to paint a picture and tell a story, to move hearts and change minds.

There is something both uniquely powerful and amazingly satisfying to be able to create your own worlds to play in. When you see them take shape and the characters come to life in ways you never imagined and they start to move and interact within and with one another, you have created life.  People will read the words and follow the adventures of the characters created, they will laugh, they will cry and they will think in new ways they hadn’t before.

This is the craft of writing, creating art, creating worlds with words.

Enjoy!
