I almost envy you Tracy. My first King novel was "The Stand" and that was 30+ years ago. I don't think I've read a bad one since then but the on that stands out most in my mind is "It". Scared the crap out of me, and that isn't easy to do.

I just listened to the "It" audiobook 13ish years after sneak reading it when I was 12 and it's still amazing.

message 18: by Del (new)

Del King has so many classics it's hard to know where to start. 'It' is probably the best thing he's ever done, but I've always loved Salem's Lot. Of his more recent stuff, the two that have impressed me the most were From a Buick 8, and Joyland.

message 19: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Hendershot My two most favorite books of his are "The Stand" and "Firestarter". I read "Firestarter" when I was 11 or 12. Another good one is "Eyes of the Dragon".

Jamie Tracy wrote: "It's my first Stephen King novel. I hope to read more. Any recommendations on what I should read next?"
I love the Mr. Mercedes series (only 2 of 3 have been released so far), but that one is a bit more gruesome, swearing, etc. My husband read 'From a Buick 8' and liked that one. 'Under the Dome' is on my list of his to read as well!

Joyland was a quick and easy read and is newer.

message 22: by Augusta (new)

Augusta Dionysus read Bag Of Bones

message 23: by Ida (new)

Ida Lisey;s story is my favorite book of all time! Duma Key is awesome too!!!

message 24: by Del (new)

Del I tried Lisey's story and wasn't feeling it, which is really unusual for me when it comes to Stephen King. I've been thinking I should give it another go. I LOVED Bag of Bones.

message 25: by Richard (new)

Richard Cosgrove Same for me with Lisey's Story. The Dark Tower books aside it's the only SK book that I started and haven't finished, though I have promised myself I'll give it another go this year.

Ellen Havard Roach Tracy wrote: "It's my first Stephen King novel. I hope to read more. Any recommendations on what I should read next?"

Omg...where to start. As 11/22/63 is different from some of his others, I'd say read Duma Key or Under The Dome. Insomnia is awesome too.

message 27: by Chris (new)

Chris If this is going to be drawn out like Under The Dome then I won't be watching, if however, they have done the right thing and intend to have an ending, I'm 'very excited'!
Please don't let them turn it into a soap opera Mr King.

Love,
A Constant Reader

Del Janice wrote: "My brother worked on the crew when they were shooting here in Dallas. Can't wait to see this one."

When 'they' were shooting? As in more than one? So it WAS a conspiracy! :-)

LOL good one!

message 32: by JULIA (new)

JULIA OMG, they're making a movie of it?? I LOVED that book so much, I read it when it was first published. Matter of fact I insisted that our book club read it too. I think this is one of Stephen King's mater works, it will be a fantastic movie!

message 33: by Adrian (new)

Adrian It seems that the dread central weblink is broken.

Also, do you have to have a hulu subscription to watch this mini-series when it comes out?

Gene Chris wrote: "If this is going to be drawn out like Under The Dome then I won't be watching, if however, they have done the right thing and intend to have an ending, I'm 'very excited'!

The CBS adaptation of Under the Dome was horrible - I understand taking liberties with adaptations, but the writers of that show thought, "hey, let's just change everything about the story - our ideas are better than Stephen King's" - yeah, uhh, no.
And the script was soap opera level writing.
Sooooo, since it's not on CBS (or even ABC, who has ruined SK books to TV often in the past), I'm hopeful about it - and JJ Abrams is involved?? Sold!
