This is a screenshot from John’s CV from TBB. I’ve noticed this before but am surprised we aren’t talking about it more. Second to last bullet point from the bottom, he has particular proficiencies in dealing with poisoning and overdose.

Yet, on the plane in TBB he didn’t seem overly concerned. This from a doctor that has special knowledge of overdose. He wasn’t yelling “call an ambulance!” like he did on the Private Bainbridge case. He isn’t pulling out his phone to call 999 like he did when he found Sherlock shot in Magnussen’s office.

He looks concerned, sure. But he is not acting like a doctor with an OD’d patient. He’s not taking a pulse, or checking pupil dilation, taking a temperature or telling him to stay seated and not walking off the plane alone. His hand is beside Sherlock’s head and not even touching his patient.

I find it interesting. And wonder if Sherlock wasn’t in fact high, but not actually OD’ed. Thoughts?

Ahhh this post perfectly supports my current fic!!! Yeah: it wasn’t an overdose. There are so many reasons why it couldn’t have possibly been one. He might have been high, but apart from stumbling right after he stands, there is no other evidence to support even that. Yeah, Sherlock is a good liar - but even he can’t fake his pupils having been totally normal, slightly larger in the relative dimness of the plane cabin and having been closed, then contracted against the bright light outside on the tarmac. Perfectly normal. Plus if he’d taken an entire laundry list of drugs that “could kill him”, to quote the only person there with credible medical training, to the point of overdose, there’s no way he would have been standing. Plus the doctor didn’t seem particularly concerned, even, much less responding the way we’ve canonically seen him do multiple times in real medical emergencies. Bottom line: not an overdose.
