Leading up to the Oscars, I'm going to feature five amazing songs for the next five days that, either for arbitrary reasons of rule or bad judgement on the part of the voters, were passed over for being nominated for the Best Song award. The first, from BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, is "A Love That Will Never Grow Old", written by Bernie Taupin and Gustavo Santaolalla, and performed by the great Emmylou Harris. It won the Golden Globe for Best Song, but was ineligible for the Oscar because it wasn't featured heavily enough in the film. The Oscar that year went to "It's Hard Out There For a Pimp" from HUSTLE & FLOW which beat out my choice of the nominated, "Travelin' Thru" by Dolly Parton from TRANSAMERICA. I know, right? Anyway...
