Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Remember how I started a new job at a big mucky-muck agency a couple of months ago? Well, about that…

One month into my employment, my wife was offered a sweet gig at a major movie studio. (I can’t tell you exactly which one, but it rhymes with Swarner Brothers.) Despite the fact that I’m a moderately successful writer/social media person/bon vivant, her skill set has always paid more than mine and her salary offer proved that. For real, it’s ridiculous. So, we sat down, did the math, and determined that it made more sense at this point for her to return to her role as family breadwinner and for me to return to my role as stay-at-home dad… sort-of.

The staff and executives at my job were really cool about the fact that I had to leave a mere two months after starting and I’m still great friends with my former coworkers. Luckily, another agency offered me a part-time gig and I’ll still get to work on pretty cool campaigns. (I can’t tell you the name of one of the studios with which I’ll be working, but it rhymes with Smarvel.) So I won’t be the breadwinner, but I’ll still bring in a little bread. Like a dinner roll’s worth.

Most importantly, however, thanks to the part-time schedule, I’m able to take over homemaking duties. I now take the boys to school, pick them up, make their lunches, do the laundry, help with their homework, bathe them—all the stuff my wife did for the last few years. I haven’t seen the boys much as my work-life got more and more busy over 2015, so I love that I can spend so much time with them now.

Last month, I was buried with work as we finished up the social campaign for a tentpole show. Tomorrow, the boys and I have plans to build a hunted mansion for their Lego figures. And I couldn’t be happier.
