Fancy Escaping With Me To Vegas?

So, I have even more exciting escapes coming up this year and the first really big one is at the beginning of April 2016! I am escaping to Las Vegas (yes, the Las Vegas - with the fake Venice, Paris and Egypt) and then on to Sedona, Arizona (one of the most magical places in the world according to many people and supposedly the closest to the moon) for a retreat with some of the most respected spiritual teachers in the world! (not Zumba!) and Im even thinking of spending time on a guest ranch (with spa) where you can learn to ride Western style (or just lounge in the hot tub).

If youve ever dreamed of the bright lights, red rocks, wide open spaces and moonscapes or learning more about native American culture (oh, or visiting the Grand Canyon) now is the time.

In the past Ive put together options and itineraries for you to pick from, but I realise that can actually make things more confusing, so, if you are interested, just come and talk to me, tell me what you want and Ill tell you what I could do for you.

Price on application.

Real Men Dance 2016

Another big thing for me this year is that I want to encourage more men to come and get down with us in classes.

For every single women who comes to one of my classes I believe there are about THREE more WOMEN who are afraid to take that step into the class. I believe this because of all the conversations I have, in person, on the phone and via email with people who say I would love to come to class... Ill be there... but something always stops them. And I believe that something is fear.

Ive been reading a lot of Brene Browns groundbreaking work on vulnerability and shame and how fear and shame affect men and women differently. If we talk about hang ups it underplays it, the truth is that we are terrified of looking bad and being rejected.

For women this gets dumped on us when we do not look perfect, when we are not perfect mothers (or are not mothers at all!) when we put ourselves before others.

We are also (both men and women) scared to make mistakes.

Coming to Zumba works, because we get silly, we have fun and we remember that its okay to be embarrassed, make mistakes, there is nothing to be ashamed of.

For women it also works because a lot of us, (me included) came to Zumba for our bodies, for our health, and then we realise as soon as we get into class that the shame weve been feeling about our bodies and looks is just bullsh*t.

All it takes is the first step into class.

When we love ourselves we can look around honestly and say you know what, it wasnt the men in our life making us feel bad about our bodies, that was ourselves, the friends we let criticise us, the advertising...

I believe for every women who makes it into class, there are another HUNDRED MEN who dont.

Shame for men is different, yes body issues are growing, but the biggest shame for men is not being strong, not being able to provide, showing weakness, making mistakes. And for one man to walk into a room full of women makes him incredibly vulnerable, but I want every single woman in our classes to understand that when a man walks into one of our classes that makes him incredibly BRAVE!

And for the men who do come I want them to feel welcome, respected and for them to realise when they make mistakes, when they get it wrong, when they fail, there is NOTHING to be ashamed of.

People talk about older people feeling lonely, yes, thats true, but there are even more young men who are afraid to talk about how they really feel because they are scared to seem weak. They are lonely and depressed and isolated.

Just as women (myself included) have days where there is a vicious cycle of wanted to be seen and appreciated but being scared to get out there because of our body hang ups, research is showing that many men are trapped in a vicious cycle of wanting to talk, wanting to open up, but being scared of showing weakness and of being rejected if they do.

I hope so much that we can create an even bigger, safer, funner (!) space where all women and men can come and get out of these vicious cycles and remember that when we are silly and fun and share the good times all this dark stuff goes away because darkness cannot survive when we shine our light on it.
