Comics to Read 1/13: A Wonderful New Year
Greetings comics fans, my apologies for the absence - it has been a stressful and illness filled month or so. Today I bring you some comics that you may want to pick up including a delicious gulp of water in the sometimes desert of Wonder Woman in comics.

There’s this weird dynamic in comics right now where the direct to floppy Wonder Woman comics are mostly cringeworthy and the digital first comics that feature her are good - Sensation, Bombshells and now this. Today Rae DeLiz’s digital first The Legend of Wonder Woman arrives in floppy form and it is very good. DeLiz’s art work on The Magic Unicorn and her self published Peter Pan have shown her ability to have a magic touch for fantasy. Those of you who remember her concept art of Amethyst know she was born to draw a “princess warrior” This time DeLiz is also doing the writing and the result is one of the most delightful Wonder Woman comics in years. There are some twists and turns to the Wonder Woman origin but for Wonder Woman fans who have looking for a return to the classic Amazon, this is it. Pick it up.

Technically not a first issue but definitely the first in this arc. I love the kids from Gotham Academy and here we have some of our favorite writers (Hello Dustin Nguyen) and teams joining in the fun. Come on, Maps is begging you to buy this - you can’t out last that girl!

Dynamite handed Red Sonja over to Gail Simone for a fun run and now Red Sonja is back in the hands of Marguerite Bennett who also is handling Angela for Marvel. And like Angela, Red Sonja has been given an updated costume. Thankfully she still has the same fun, kick ass personality. Win!

Speaking of Gail Simone her Leaving Megalopolis which broke Kickstarter records is back with a sequel from Dark Horse. Simone excels at team books filled with people who are good at being bad and off the grid of other comic leads. Oh let’s just say twisted and weird, but in a good way.

Just the queer bodice ripping horror book you were waiting for. I wasn’t provided this second issue but I was given a copy of the first and it was pretty horrible BUT IN A GOOD WAY. Again this is Marguerite Bennett along with Ariela Kristantina on art.
Ugh, Choices. It’s always hard in comics to support comics by creators who have a tendency to wear their asshat A LOT like the writer of this Max Landis. I won’t waste too much space detailing his last round of asshatery (okay Rey=Mary Sue). But Joelle Jones is doing great art her and, damn, if this isn’t one of the best Superman comics I’ve read in awhile. Ugh, Choices.

That’s it for me this week. What’s on your list?
Can’t wait to read some of these!
Thanks for the kind words about SURVIVING MEGALOPOLIS and RED SONJA (for which I got to pass the baton to the amazing MARGUERITE BENNETT!).
