Your fun fact of the day: Frigga outwits Odin no less than two times.

Once in the Grimnismol, when she bets Odin Geirrod, his foster son, wouldn’t welcome him into his hall. Then, while Odin travels to Geirrod’s hall, Frigga sends a messenger to tell Geirrod not to trust any strangers. When Odin gets to Geirrod’s kingdom in disguise, he is treated poorly as a result of Frigga’s message. Thus she wins the bet.

The second is when she and Odin are deciding which tribe will when a battle the following morning. Who will win is to be determined by Odin giving the tribe a new name. Frigga favors the Winnili. Odin favors the Vandals, who are visible from his bedside. He claims he’ll give the victory to whoever he sees first when he wakes up (the Vandals).

In the night, Frigga turns his bed around to face the Winnili and advises the Winnili women to tie their hair under their chins to make a sort of beard. When Odin wakes up he asks, “Who are these long beards?” Since he gave the tribe a new name, Lombards (”long beards”), they win the battle.

Anyway. Don’t mess with Frigga.
