ON NEW YEAR’S EVE

I am writing this less than three hours before the calendar turns.  In Munch, train stations have closed due to terrorist threats.  In Paris and Brussels, I’m told, traditional public New Year’s Eve celebrations have been canceled for the same reason.  In New York City, NYPD will supposedly saturate Times Square with some six thousand police officers.

Wishing all y’all a cautious, safe, and happy holiday weekend! Those things aren’t, after all, mutually exclusive.
