I recently found this amazing trim, which inspired me to make a casual Native American dress.

*Singing Bird is wearing the moccasins and hair shells she came with; I did not make them.*

Casual Bell-Sleeve Dress:

While this dress is several patterns put together, it’s actually quite simple to make!  The bodice is Kirsten’s Birthday Dress.

I adapted the sleeves of a long sleeve t-shirt, flaring the sleeves to your desired size (sleeve image below is for reference only - it is not to scale and should not be printed and used as a literal pattern).

The skirt is Molly’s Birthday Pinafore.

Add trim to belt line (hiding the seam) and sleeves.  *Note: It is easiest to add trim to flat fabric; make sure you add trim before stitching sleeves (or other tight areas) closed*

Necklace:

While jewelry making isn’t my strong suit, this necklace is easy!  You will need beads, beading string, and a necklace clasp - all of which can be found at craft supply stores.

Tie one end of your beading string to one half of the necklace clasp.  Now, string beads until your necklace reaches the desired length.  Tie the second end of string to the remaining clasp and clip extra ends.  (If in doubt, grab one of your own necklaces for an easy visual of how everything is connected)

Approximate Necklace Lengths:
Chokers = 5″
Short Necklaces = 6″
Regular Necklaces = 7″
Long Necklaces = 8″ or 9″
Extra-Long Necklaces = 10″+

Accessories:

The headband is a 12″ piece of trim.  Either sew the ends together to form a band that slips over her brow, or add a closure to each end.  I used a Velcro closure, but snaps or other options can be used, as Velcro easily snags hair.  *Note: if you make headwear too tight, your doll may end up with permanent hat-head.  Remember off-brand Barbies that always looked half-drowned because they came with a plastic band around their head?  Yeah…that.*

The hair ribbons are regular ribbons cut to fit (about 30″) and tied around her hair.

This is so cute – easy instructions, too
