You've got some good ones on your already read/tried list! I really like J.D. Robb's (aka Nora Robert) In Death series. They're murder mysteries first and foremost, but they do have some romance in them - so that might nix those for you. (I don't tend to like romance either, but I do like these - if that helps. Minor spoiler - but may help you to know (view spoiler)).First one is Naked in Death

I'm with Susan on the Karin Slaughter loving. I think you would probably like them. They are pretty gruesome. Just like we like em. (They are set in our neck of the woods)I saw that you are reading Rowling's Strike books. I'm leaning towards you liking A Casual Vacancy. Or have you tried it? Robin Cook can be hit or miss for me. One of his that I will never, ever forget is Toxin.
