Sunday Poetry with Jenean C. Gilstrap. Today: The Vacancy

Hopper. The Room. 1931

Hopper. The Room. 1931

the vacancy…

she sits

in a room

void of life

her back to the open windows

virgin white sheers blow

the particles of her shattered life

blue walls wrapping

her slumped skeleton

still she sits

staring at the cold hard floor

her lonely arms limp in her lap

she sits

and stares

but her eyes

are met with nothing but emptiness

nothing on either side of them

everything blank

and

she wonders

where it all went

those things that are no more

that have ceased to exist

that have disappeared

from her sight

her hearing

her touch

her lips

from her very life

where are they now

the sight of him

the sound of him

the feel of him

the taste of him

his love

his life

their life

and now

her own life

where are they now

without

him

and so

she sits
