There's an attitude I've seen in superhero stories, mostly in adaptations but it does occasionally creep into the comics themselves, for the writer to have the characters point out how stupid or ridiculous stuff like codenames and costumes are in a smugly

Silly. It shows a lack of imagination. I’m sure I’ve done it myself at some time, but if we take a moment, there’s always a way to make these tropes believable.


People use code names in the real world, people wear costumes and uniforms, people do things incognito, none of that is that hard to explain with a straight face.
