Seasonal thought of the day - a gingerbread house. The first gingerbread was believed to have been cooked in Europe after the Crusades, following the discovery of new spices. Shaping gingerbread dates back to C13 but it wasn't until the publication of Hansel and Gretel in the 1800s that bakers began using it to fashion edible houses.
