Broken Records ARC Review

hazelandglasz:

When I first heard that @lilahsuzanne was back with a new novel, I was thrilled.

If you haven’t read her novela, Pivot and Slip, or her first novel, Spice, well, my friends, I can only encourage to go and read them because they are fine examples of Lilah’s talent.

But I digress.

I was thrilled, as I was saying, because the summary presented it as a love story with a musical background.

I mean, “Broken Records”.

And that visual for the cover–all my kudos to the artistic team at IP!!

The book itself is lovely–I have actually stuck post-its for every time I laughed out loud while reading, and I’m pretty sure some are missing.

The characters are compelling–the main cast and the “supporting” cast, I mean, we never even meet her and I love Grady’s Memaw!

But what struck me the most about this book is the excellent job Suzanne has done with the pacing, the rhythm of it.

There is truly a melody written within those words, one that spoke to me even though I did not grow up amidst Country music or Blues.

(Jazz, yes, but that’s a different story altogether)

Also, the fact that it is a romantic love story between two men, but also a platonic love story between a man and a woman, and a love story (I won’t even try to define it) between a man and his music

And also, a man who has a complicated relationship with food (I *adored* that aspect of Nico-you’ll see)

My only complain?

That I now have to wait for Part 2 of the series.

I already knew, when I opened that book, that Lilah Suzanne was a talented writer, capable of weaving emotions like a colorful tapestry.

I now have an inkling that she can also write relationship like a timeless melody.
